When he was tweeting about twitter/programming stuff, a lot of it was just wrong, and he was pretty consistently the joke in programming circles for a while, several months. 

He has a physics degree, and there is some evidence that he legitimately did a lot out at SpaceX once upon a time. I'm not sure if there's any recent evidence that he's still that competent - when you're not actively doing something you become worse at it over time. There is evidence that Elon is abusing drugs, and I'm somewhat convinced it's affected his brain.

He's wrong about a lot of political things. 

 

Elon Musk is a great marketer, and I think he personally understands when he has made a mistake; and has to rehire people he just fired after realizing how important they were to operations. Even if, publicly he insists that he hasn't made these mistakes. 

That's a great point, as you definitely need to know what is going on in order to have some meaning from anything you say.
