In hindsight, was it always smart for Nintendo to never prioritize or pursue 3rd party support?

Consoles need good third party support to help ensure long-term success, even Nintendo's, so I would say no. If I recall, Capcom asked Nintendo to give the Switch 4GB of RAM, and they listened. If Nintendo hadn't listened to them, I don't think they would've gotten as much third party support as they did for the Switch.
