Don't need any thanks, it's my job/career.
Mostly I just ask people to step up and set the politics aside.
Thoughts and prayers or playing politics is not helpful to us on the fire ground... Having people like Joe Biden or Donald Trump use these disasters as a political stepping stone/leverage is disrespectful and I am hopeful people don't pay attention to it.
Better training, equipment, resources is what makes the difference and is what we need.
In saying that, everyone can play a part, keeping your property clean of fuel like wood, leaves and having enough room to have a fire truck enter the property makes a difference.
I have sadly had to let houses burn to the ground because their gate wasn't wide enough for us to enter with the fire truck, we rolled onto the next property which we could save instead.
