Yes..... They have done studies on sleep and quality of sleep, and found a link to lifespan as well.
It can be a co-factor for other stuff, which can lower life quality as well (so not just a shorter life, but more issues in life).
Sleeping too much is bad for your health as well.
However you should be getting 7-8hours a day if possible.
(I try for 6-7h.... recently had one with ~4,5 hours and I was not at my peak at work the next day (another reason to get your hours of sleep)).
