That's probably the advantage of a low population density in Australia.

  • Australia as a whole has a population density of 3 people per km² (9 people per sq mi)
  • Texas as a whole has a population density of 43 people per km² (114 people per sq mi)
  • Germany as a whole has a population density of 243 people per km² (628 people per sq mi)

Of course, in Australian towns and cities the population density is much higher (and probably closer to comparable town sizes of other countries).
