Jumpin said: Nintendo reinvented Zelda. Between those two games alone, over 53 million sales. Reinventing old IPs is arguably a superior strategy to inventing new ones because it creates something new without throwing away tradition. Nintendo has done this since at least Donkey Kong Country; maybe even Super Mario Bros. |
This sums up my thoughts perfectly. Nintendo arguably creates whole IPs within its own IPs all the time. Now we have folks hoping for top down Zeldas, 3D Zeldas, Open Air Zeldas, Open Water Zeldas, side scroll Zeldas, etc, etc.
On top of that, while I love new and creative ideas, there’s no denying that with each new IP Nintendo creates you have a new set of games that have to be made each gen to satisfy these often disparate audiences. I’m all for this, but not just because “Nintendo is stagnating and we want new ideas.”
id rather Nintendo just continue to focus on fun, whether that’s in the form of new games within existing IPs or new IPs created from scratch.
