Seriously asking... what I Joe had NOT stepped down for Kamala? Dementia and all, he decided to stay for the fight. Or actually "they" let him stay for the fight. Do you think the result would have ben different?

Yes. It would be different. We'd be looking at a 57-43 senate and a +20 GOP house of representatives. Trump probably would have had a real landslide election in the EC.

Kamala lost in part because she didn't distance herself from Biden enough. His favorability is below 40% currently.

He shouldn't have ran for a second term, like he said he wouldn't when campaigning for his first.

I agree, the result would have been even worse for the Democrats.

The message of the Democrats' campaign wouldn't have made it through with a less coherent candidate. Biden's economic policies have worked, but this election was one about perception vs. reality. Reality is that the USA had the best recovery from COVID, millions of new jobs were created, inflation was brought down to a normal level. But perception... ~75% of Americans believed the country is a wreck. So just like Harris didn't distance herself from Bidenomics, Biden himself wouldn't have done that either.

It's a very common sentiment that the political elite is to blame for all of a country's problems, but at some point it needs to be acknowledged that the people who vote are not without responsibility. When there's such a disparity between perception and reality, there's only so much you can do. From what I gathered, the incumbent party always loses when the American people perceive the economy as bad, because the opposing party will be the one to be recognized as bringing the change.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.
