In this very thread I have called Trump "awful" and a "dumpster fire":

The truth is, a big part of Trump's appeal is that he makes many people who feel disenfranchised feel seen and heard. It doesn't matter that if he's actually going to solve their problems; he makes them feel that he will.

If the left are ever going to defeat Trumpism, they can't afford to keep just dismissing anyone who supports him as just irredeemable evil Nazis who can't be reasoned with. Doing so doesn't confront the root problem, it just sweeps it under the rug where it continues to fester and grow.

We've seen this play out twice now; his base is written off as just a "basketful of deplorables" only to then beat expectations come election day.

I'm not a Trump supporter, I'm not even a conservative, but clearly the left's approach to Trumpism is a losing strategy.

Am I to understand that Kamala lost because Hillary Clinton was mean to Trump supporters? Or do we have something possibly more relevant to this particular campaign?

Not because of that particular comment, of course.

More that both times Trump's base was underestimated as a few malcontents who could be scolded, shamed and dismissed, only to then turn out to be far bigger and more powerful than expected.
