This just goes to show America's true character. We elect the leaders we deserve. Trump is going to win the electoral college and the popular vote for the first time. People either like or don't mind his rhetoric. They must like his policies and his promises.

It's hard for me to understand any of this. I am as anti-Trump as you can get. I think his first term was horrible. That he lost to Biden in 2020 gave me some hope that America could redeem itself. There is no excuse this time, it's not a quirk of the electoral college and people sitting out the election like 2016. This is a positive affirmation of Trump's popularity.

Who is to say what the Dems could have done to stop this? If only Biden was a few years younger. It's apparent he has some appeal to Whites, Middle America, Men that Hilary and Kamala simply can't replicate. Maybe inflation was too big an issue to overcome despite all of the other positive sides of the economy.

Biden is done politically. He probably wishes he stayed in the race.

Kamala is done politically. There is nowhere else for her to go. She likely planned on running in 2028 if Biden stayed atop the ticket, but obviously she is not viable.

Obama's appeal is limited. I doubt he will come out heavily for any future presidential candidates. We are so removed from his administration.

The Democrats are without any national leaders. I know Gavin Newsom has presidential aspirations. He was loyal to Biden and stepped aside for Kamala. I think he was aiming for a 2028 run anyway but being the governor of the state of California, the right's biggest punching bag, probably hurts him as much as it did not help Kamala.

I nevver felt good about Walz as a VP choice. All that talk about his charisma and being a good attack dog did not amount to anything. JD Vance was supposed to be so unlikable compared to him, but now is set to inherit the MAGA mantle.

I think Kelly would have been the better VP choice, if only for the optics. As a marine and astronaut, he appeared more manly than Walz who, despite his service in the National Guard, came off as a bit of a softee.

I don't know when we will get a female president. I think Dems will be too scared to field a female candidate anytime soon after two losses to Trump. I think some female Dems will try fo the nomination, but its clear that Dems have a disadvantage with men that women can't offset.

Maybe Biden should have never won for reelection and allowed the Dems to have a proper primary. Maybe they should have had a mini-primary instead of having a coronation for Kamala.

Trump is a unique political entity. He could get away with things that no other politician would. All of his many transgressions were washed away or tolerated by voters, while milder slip ups on the Dems side got amplified to oblivion.

I do not know if I have a point. I am just venting to process my feelings. I am not at all optimistic about America's (or the world's) future given these results. I love this country and being an American so much, but today it feels like a burden. At least Dems will respect the results and not lie about fraud and attempt an insurrection to turn over the results.

I'm spent.
