Whats crazy is the drama it had when it launched.
Reviewers refusing to review it, games journalists refusing to give it any space or pr ect.
On resetera its not even allowed to be spoken out, you can get banned for it, they call it "the wizard game" instead.
All because they believe JK Rowling to be transphobic.
There were boycotts towards it.... because they wouldn't support such a game, because of who is behind the IP.

Meanwhile most normal people are just like "cool, a harry potter game".

Honestly I have a wildly different take from this. Especially being in a liberal space, a lot forums banned the discussion of the game because the conversation just fell into extremisms, political war arguments.

But almost all of the major publications supported the game and through its launch it was surrounded by excitement, especially the Playstation State of Play dedicated gameplay deep dive. It's success was never a surprise unless you were deep into the warring fractions imo.

As always the general public stances can't be deduced by twitter hot-takes or viral forum posts.

Super happy for this game and hope they're more ambitious with the next. I still haven't got past the first few hours because the combat didn't quite stick. Although the hogwarts fantasy is fun, I think I crave a darker story.

There wasn't any conversations into extremism... this is resetera ect, we are talking about.
Its basically a bubble of like minded people, that are quick to shut down anything they don't condone/accept.
There was no political wars on their forums... they just day1 made it a policy to ban anything related to it.

In the same vain, there were reviewers that just flatout refused to review the game or give it any space.... because of JK Rowling.

Yes, general public stance isn't reflective of people on resetera, or the game wouldn't have sold as well as it did.

it was mainly a very loud vocal minority, that didn't approve of Rowling, and thus wanted everyone to boycott it.
