The whole "casual" thing is bullshit and those people migrated to phones over a decade ago. They don't buy consoles and I'm sorry this whole hardcore vs casual thing is silly bullshit online discourse should be left in the 7th generation. Only people who are "hardcore" are the ones who play flight sims with full setups. Who owns and maintains arcade PCBs. Can 1CC shmups on original hardware. Build/mod consoles and fight sticks. Turn their TVs sideways for tate mode. Re-cap their hardware with new transistors. That is the enthusiast market and the real hardcore. I don't do any of that. Only reason I don't turn my CRT into Tate mode is because it weighs a metric ton but the rest is not in me, aside from modding one fight stick with Sanwa buttons 8 years ago. But there are groups of people who are. Buying an Xbox or PS5 does not make you"hardcore" As for the topic. Nothing. Nintendo doesn't need to. They get enough on Switch and then get a lot of cooler AA and indies games. Not to mention the shit fuck ton of shmups the thing has from new to ports of Genesis/Saturn/Dreamcast and more. Switch recently got Cosmic Fantasy 1-2. Great RPGs on PCE that never made it west until now. Switch does not need to be a 3rd wheel. Xbox is struggling as is. Switch offers a more unique library and experience. It's perfect as is in that regard. Switch 2 just needs to continue that tradition. Now if you excuse me I'm going to use the flip grip to put my Switch in tate mode and play some Batsugun. |
Everyone I know in real life with one is a casual, my nieces, cousins, aunt and uncles and I have two and I have one and I use it casually. It's the DS audience/wii audience, majority just casual. There's nothing wrong with it. Why is it a bad thing? You don't actually think there is 150 million hardcore gamers out there do you?
PS/xbox/PC have casuals too it's just that Nintendo draws more casuals in than the rest, they make their hardware to target those people. It's literally the year one ad campaign.
