Not sure why everyone on here suddenly thinks it won't come out until next Fall just because it wasn't announced in October.

An announcement this year was always very unlikely because that would hurt Switch holiday sales. That's no reason to think the launch is an entire year away from now lol. If Nintendo isn't launching S2 until next Fall then they seriously screwed up. Only way it launches that late is if they are having serious problems getting launch titles ready. We already know they pushed it back from late 2024 release to 2025 because games weren't gonna be ready, but to have to delay the entire system a full year would be extremely bad planning on Nintendo's part and I doubt they are that incompetent.

They don't need more than a handful of months between the announcement of the system and the launch. Expect the announcement near the beginning of the year, and expect the launch by mid-year. There is no way Nintendo wants to sit on ever-dwindling Switch sales for 3+ quarters next year. They are a business, that would only hurt them. Only way that happens (and I don't think there is any way that is happening) is if they really screwed up and are way behind on getting the games ready.

Expect a launch by end of the first half of the year. Nintendo not announcing the new system last month, as expected, doesn't change anything, because that was already expected. Plenty of time to release these last few Switch games / ports in the first 4-5 months of the year. Heck they might even still have a couple old games getting ported over to Switch after the launch, seeing as how there is no way S2 won't be backwards compatible, those games would also be playable for early buyers of the new system.

I think holiday 2025 launch date is a real possibility, but not because Nintendo aimed to release it in late 2025, but because like many Nintendo consoles in the past, the system launch is delayed until launch games are ready. I think Nintendo from the beginning aimed to have the Switch out in late 2024, that got shifted to early 2025 at first and now i think its late 2025. Many Nintendo consoles in the past came out like 1 year later than the original planned release date, and i think the Switch 2 shares a similiar fate.

I now think mass production of the Switch 2 will not even start this year but sometime around January-March for a September/October release next year.

The timing is not exactly the best, not only will Nintendo lose out on big games like MH Wilds, it will also have to compete with GTA 6 for mindshare and sales, a late 2024 would have been a much better outcome for them than a late 2025 release, but they have to adjust and make the best of the situation.
