But let us run with your criteria and game.  Sega was made to compete against Nintendo.  Sega has 1 console in the top 20.  Nintendo has 9.  The Gamecube, considered a commercial mess, sold more than any Sega hardware outside the Genesis...  let that sink in.  If the GC were a Sega console it would be the second best selling console for them....  

Like I said, Sega is laughably overrated. 

If the question were "ps2 or xbox" you are damn straight my answer would be the ps2.

I just realized the Wii U outsold the DC.  The Wii U also outsold the Saturn.  The GC sold more than the DC+Saturn combined....  Nintendo failures still beat Sega.  

Xbox had a multi-billion dollar corporation backing it. Sega on the other hand had to sink or swim financially. If Xbox had been spun off from MS as its own company in 2001 Xbox would be dead by the end of the 360 era or before. Sega was in the console market for 18 years on its own two feet.

Microsoft Gaming revenue is 15 billion annually...  so no, that isn't true.  Microsoft Gaming is incredibly profitable and successful.
