Best: Maybe Final Fantasy VI. Pretty much every character was compelling, and there were so many great subplots.
Worst: Either Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (boils down to: "Ben, you're a crystal!") or Enchanted Arms (thanks in no small part to Atsuma's constant, plaintive refrain of "Toya...?").
Edit: Oh, snap. I just remembered Final Fantasy X-2. Y! R! P! Girl Power! Yeeuuuch.
