The US is looking for an off ramp. The last thing that US and Israel should do now is disproportionate retaliation, especially now Iran considers its even again. (2 attacks on Iran, embassy in Damascas and bombing of Haniyeh in Tehran, 2 attacks on Israel with minor damage)

However Iran has said they will continue to defend themselves and next time they will target civilian infrastructure.

Hopefully that's just more threats to appear tough and they'll downplay a small retaliatory counter attack like they did last time. And hopefully Biden/Blinken can convince Netanyahu to keep it small.

It's in everyone's interest for the US to show Iran who's boss even if they do that through Isreal and it causes Iran to retaliate. We need the US to look strong (hopefully be strong too) to avoid a damn regional war in the ME and to chest bump at China and Russia.

That's what Netanyahu has been doing for the last year. See any positive outcome of that yet?

Netanyahu wants the US to act tough on Iran to provoke a regional war. That's his current goal to stay in power.
