Ports on the West Coast, whose workers are represented by a different union and who enjoy better pay and benefits than their Eastern counterparts, are preparing to absorb some extra allocations. 

President Biden, who has championed the cause of labor, has said that he would not break up the strike. 

The work stoppages are projected to cost the economy from several hundred million to $4.5 billion per day.
