A lot of people consider the DS to be the PS2 of Nintendo handhelds, and the 3DS to be the PS3. If we go sequentially, then that would logically line up with the Switch being the PS4 of Nintendo handhelds.

I was talking cultural impact and sales wise.

Then it's still DS. It's only 3 million shy of PS2 lifetime sales, and was an absolute phenomenon at its height. 3DS would be the 'still successful, but huge drop off from predecessor that needed aggressive moves to be salvaged' system (The PS3 analogue), and the Switch would be the 'return to form that learned from its predecessor's failures and put its platform holder back on top' system (The PS4 analogue).
