We are now almost 2 years since the disastrous release of scarlet/violet. With no new releases in 23 or 24 and a new legends game announced for sometime in 25 it seems like they may have finally realised that the yearly releases of the past are just not sustainable anymore. Hopefully this will lead to some improvements in the main series, although I'm not going to hold my breath.

I think you’ve gotten ahead of yourself. Bear in mind that the mainline series has seen a new release every 3 years since Black/White in 2010 and they’ve stuck to that like clockwork. Gen 10 would therefore be due in 2025 and would be announced in the spring, like past instalments.

Legends Z-A will likely have minimal bearing on this. Legends Arceus was announced in Feb 2021 for an early 2022 release. This did not impact Scarlet/Violet’s reveal in Feb 22 or its planned release later in the same year.

In short, expect a Pokemon Direct in February 25 announcing Gen 10. They previously released Gen5 only a few months short of the 3DS launch so the Switch 2 probably won’t change their plans either, especially given they’d probably rather launch it on the Switch’s massive instal base.
