Some outlets have compared the 9700X to the 7700 instead of the 7700X, which is also a 65W part. Then the chip has an uplift of ~12%, not great, but at least isn't quite as humiliating as just 3-6% compared to the 7700X.

Where the 9700X really shines is in everything that uses AVX, especially AVX-512, and with AI. With the former, the 9700X can actually beat the 7950X while with the latter, the 9600X is on par with the 7900X.
