@LurkerJ I'm looking into that.

Trump has normalized extremism in all forms... And consequently when you normalize extremism, your opponents also become more extreme.

The left also does not condone this. Biden does not condone this. It's the whack-jobs who get off on violence that promote this.

Ok. I'll bite. Just this part though.

Trump was not the one that normalized extremism. If you are looking for the gateway to extremism, then blame the media. For 8 years, they have called Trump a fascist, likened him to Hitler himself, while constantly saying that he is "an existential threat to democracy™". Him calling someone funny names is not even comparable to constantly marking someone as an actual existential threat to all people's lives. The media was setting this up for someone who thinks they have a righteous indignation to take matters with their own hands and become the "hero" that democracy™ needs. If you need another example of media being instigators, look up Nick Sandmann incident.

Right now, people shouldn't rest easy. In an earthquake, there are aftershocks. I'm expecting the worse to come because the media, and society at hand, had years to cultivate such extremist mindset. I really wish this country the very best but I've long detached myself from things that are out of my control. If this country fully embraces the fringe left's divisive ideology, then so be it. It's shameful that I took an oath for American citizenship, but I've been so heavily disillusioned and just don't want to deal with its politics. I'mma just save up money till I have enough to live in my third world shithole. It might be a shithole, but at least it's a shithole where I have no expectations.

I think Pemalite mentioned a lot of strong points, but I just want to add a few.

On the topic of normalizing extremism and violence, he literally told the crowd to punch protestors, and that he would pay the legal fees. This is not normal. Even in an authoritarian dictatorship, they generally at least pretend to be civilized in front of the crowd.

And he 100% turned out to be a threat to democracy.
He did not want to give up his position, called the election rigged (despite every claim of mass voter fraud quickly being debunked, and later thoroughly disproven), claimed that Mike Pence could send back the votes (which he cannot) and told his conspiracy theorist followers to march on the capital and fight like hell.
And to the surprise of no one, they did, while bringing a gallows and chanting "hang Mike Pence".

And they were extremely close in getting to the elected officials.

And to accuse the group that includes people from all walks of life as the devisive ones instead of the group that targets people based on sexuality, gender, ethnicity, etc is ironic. Progressives are not tolerant of the intolerant. And that it seen as 'divisive' by right wingers.
