I'm really tempted to get the ROG Ally X as my first Windows-handheld (complementary to my Steam Deck OLED + Switch OLED).

My main complain of the other ROG Ally models always was the mediocre battery life and they now doubled the capacity!

Sure, it gets 10% heavier by that, but it's still a lot lighter than the Legion Go and in the ballpark of my Steam Deck LCD.

The ergonomic improvements (rounded edges of the case, sticks, d-pad...) and 50% more (and faster) RAM are welcome and the microSD-card-slot is (probably) fixed.

Even if the microSD-card-slot should fail after a few years, you can go crazy and upgrade the SSD up to 8 TB.
M2.2280 SSDs are usually much cheaper per TB than M2.2230 SSDs.

I don't plan to use it docked with an eGPU... but thanks to USB4.0/Thunderbolt such a solution should be also much cheaper than using the proprietary port of the old models.

But if you plan to use the ROG Ally X with an eGPU... get an Nvidia-eGPU to avoid Radeon driver conflicts between the internal and external GPU... thanks to The Phawx for that tip!

Here some more infos from the whore's mouth (did I use that phrase right?)
