The data on the SD card is bound to your current Switch, but you can copy the data on it to an HDD (for backup purposes) or to another SD card without any problems. In 2017 I started with a 128 GB SD card for my Switch, later I copied the data to a 200 GB SD card, later I copied the data to a 400 GB SD card.
If the old SD card gets damaged, you can copy a backup from your HDD to a new SD card and it should work on the same Switch.
I just started a new backup of my Switch SD card (320 GB data). Transfer speed is ~60 MB/s, so the backup process should be finished after 90 minutes.
