Kingdom Hearts is not even complex. It's just plain old bullshit after bullshit since Birth by Sleep. There's nothing wrong about having a crap ton of games integral to a single plot. The Trails series is proof of that.

KH is just poorly written and the connections between games feel incredibly artificial and forced, to the point where, when KHIII happened, they just weren't able to give the series a coherent conclusion. That game's story is even more idiotic than the last three games combined...

... And both KH and FF VII Remake have Tetsuya Nomura on board. Coincidence? I don't think so...
