Dragon's Dogma is for sure heavily inspired by WRPGs. I would say it is a WRPG made by a capable Japanese company. Kind of similar to how Chained Echoes is a "JRPG" but made by a Western studio lol.

For Capcom's first try in a long time in the proper RPG genre, Dragon's Dogma was fantastic. It's a weird game, don't get me wrong, but they made the core gameplay loop incredibly fun and addicting. And it looks like with the sequel, they're turning it up to 11!

I honestly prefer Capcom's approach to RPGs. They may not make many, but when they do, it's usually in their own niche that I end up loving! There's really not many game companies that make games like Monster Hunter, and when Capcom decided to change up the Monster Hunter formula, you got Monster Hunter Stories. Which is the best non-Pokémon game I've ever played lol.

I've never played Breath of Fire though. It would be nice if Capcom was able to cater to the traditional JRPG crowd with a new title in that series as a way to continue to broaden their playerbase. Especially now after seeing the massive success of games like Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and of course FF7 Rebirth.

I HIGHLY recommend you play the first Dragon's Dogma. When it released, I had just finished putting in an unknown number of hours into Skyrim. So going from that to feeling the fantastic combat in Dragon's Dogma, was a new gaming high for me!

Yeah, I didnt really get into WPRGs - the only WPRGs I've played were Torchlight 1 and 2 (and Mass Effect trilogy). Dark Souls the only other closest WPRG-like lol.

I highly recommend playing Breath of Fire - its a unique series, all of the games play differently and the overall lore is great even though the story of each game is simple.

A lot of people love BoF 3 but for me it was okay (I couldnt stand the mini games lol). BoF2 is my favorite. Dragon Quarter (5) is okay but it made the fanbase divided because of all the radical changes it made to the gameplay structure. Sadly BoF 6 killed the series - it was a MMO on mobile devices lol

I recently got Dark Arisen so I'll try it out for sure , its been on sale for like $5 on PS4/Xbox lol.
