This is utter nonsense.  It is easy to avoid spoilers.  All you have to do is not look at them.  I've been gaming since 1982, and have kept up with the gaming press for much of that time.  I have never had a game spoiled for me. Not one single time, that I can recall. And that's because as soon as spoilers start circulating, everybody talks about the fact that spoilers are around. So, I don't look at those things. It's really very easy. It doesn't require any real effort at all. 

Essentially, one must choose to spoil a game for themselves, otherwise it will not be spoiled.  

Not really. For example, I got Xenoblade 3 spoiled on a Discord server that doesn't even have anything to do with emulation or Nintendo because it was dumped online early and ppl were discussing it in a gaming-channel. Their comments were soon deleted by staff, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. Maybe I should have just avoided Discord right? Why should I have to go through extra effort to avoid spoilers? On top of that, one of the enjoyment of a game release is the waiting time and procedure towards the release date such as discussing with others. But boom, we are told that it was leaked online. Immediately kills the vibe, hype, or anything that was keeping the tension. Very lame. It's been especially bad lately. It's not so easy avoiding spoilers either, because psychologically when I know everything is out already, it feels stupid waiting and purposefully avoiding them for like a week. It's the same feeling as going up against cheaters in a game. Yeah, you can ignore the cheaters, move on to the next game. But it's discouraging fosho. Same feeling as missing out on something you wanted because of scalpers. Hey, it's not the scalpers fault! Yea fuck that.
