It doesn't help when outlets/journalists use clickbait headlines.

Still, you would think Sony is barely breaking even when looking at some of the reactions lol. Even the most bullish news out of the report, Sony planning an IPO for their financial unit, was overlooked.

That's the problem, Some journalists have quoted partially or twisted some words to make their narrative more believable. It's getting ridiculous

Far less likely for this to happen to Nintendo, most Nintendo games are very cheap and don't require a ton of resources, most games don't focus on texturing every small detail. Only games that Nintendo makes that I can see having pretty high budgets are Smash Bros, Zelda, and maybe 3D Mario as well.

Nintendo games also typically sell far more than Sony's, Super Mario Party alone has outsold all but 3 PS exclusives in history. Nintendo games could easily sell between 25-40M on the regular, and they very rarely go down in price while Sony needs to apply heavy discounts just to sell over 10M Units. Nintendo has created such dominant IP with relatively small budgets to the point where Nintendo won't need to worry about it for a very long time, potentially never.

Interest take, but I'll bit, what the hell.

Considering that Sony rarely reveals number of games sold compared to Nintendo, it's hard to tell. Games like The Last of Us, Gow 2018, Uncharted 4, Horizon Forbidden West, Spiderman 1, and a few others have already passed the 20m units sold mark.

Also, just like Sony, the same franchises are the ones selling the most. About 9 games have sold more than 20m units on Switch, and their games DO go on sale about 3-4 times a year. Sony used to do heavy discounts in the prior generations for their games, but sadly, they copied Nintendo with PS5 games, All their games, including launch titles (with very rarely examples) still have the launch price, nowadays, it's very rarely that Sony does heavy discounts on their games.

Main problem is, their PR has been a disaster in the PS5 generation, they should at least learn from other companies at least.

I think javi741 is referring to that Switch games don't get a permanent price cut compared to Playstation games, which do (and sometimes like 3 months after release).
Yes, PS5 AAA titles are not getting price drops like PS4 titles or 3rd party PS5 games, but they also arent selling as much. And yes AAA Nintendo games have a deal that lower by like 10-20% off 3-4 times in a year, for weekends, and only for select titles which are usually the older ones from 2017-2020. PS5 puts deals on their games as well 3-4 times a year as well.

And I think he was referring to how Sony can't seem to sell games over 20M units for the PS5.

Below are Sony published games that released for PS5
