No 1st party release from existing IP. If you're going to quote, make sure to give the full context. Doesn't mean we won't see any 1st party release for the next 15 months. Just that we won't see the next GoW, TLoU , GoT , GT etc from the likes of Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica etc. There are various factors at play for why this is occurring. Sony's bigger studios are are only coming off the post release of their last game. Spiderman 2 only just released in the previous 6 months, and GT, GoW and Horizon released in the passed 18-24 months. Naughty Dog has only recently pivoted away from their live service ventures, which I'm assuming the assets of which will be used anyway for a future project. Couple this with the fact that we are now entering the time at which projects which were conceptualised or green lit during/prior to the pandemic, which would have been due to release shortly under the status quo, have had there development time extended as every team adjusted and adapted to the situation. There are plenty of logical explanations for the situation. Obviously some affect every company and not just Sony. In a perfect world the Last of us online, or the next Naughty Dog single player game or GoT II would be releasing next fiscal year. But unfortunately that's not the reality. This however, does not mean we won't see any new IP 1st party releases from Sony in the next fiscal year. |
Maybe we'll see something but judging by their sales forecast which is factoring in a decline even with new PS5 Pro hardware ... I'm inclined to believe it's not going to be anything major.
GTA6 is what they're banking on.
