Well most developers haven't show much beyond PS4 like graphics. It's becoming harder to make that distinction. I think lots of innovation is going to be needed to both speed up the pace of development, ai, animations and interactivity. With a few exceptions, the graphical leap looks like it won't really be seen until the later half of the gen |
We're hitting diminishing returns certainly, things look better but it's not as big of a deal.
Secondly, we're hitting a budget wall too ... you can talk about better graphics all you want, but where do you think that comes from? It doesn't come for free. From a staff that needs to be bigger and bigger and needs to be paid money for longer hours.
There's a reason CG movies cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce, those levels of visuals don't come for free.
With Spider-Man 2 I played it for like 15 minutes and then turned it off and haven't had any itch to return to it. Yeah it's a nice game, but it's just more of the same thing and I just don't have the desire to put another 20-30 hours into the same kind of experience over and over again unless the gameplay is really, really special.
