Looked on the Zenimax Jobs site for Machine and between the 3 job listings I looked at, none mentioned Unreal Engine experience as a requirement or bonus, while idTech experience was listed as a bonus. So I'm assuming they are either using idTech 7 or were given early access to the upcoming idTech 8 as id themselves use it on their next game.

God, ID's next game on ID Tech 8...

Only one game used ID Tech 7 and that was Eternal.

They have been that way for awhile. Doom 3 was their only id Tech 4 game, Rage was their only id Tech 5 game, and Doom 2016 was their only id Tech 6 game. All of the other games on each of those 3 iterations of the id Tech engine were from 2nd/3rd party developers, for instance Machine used id Tech 5 on Wolfenstein The New Order and Wolfenstein The Old Blood, Arkane and Tango adapted id Tech 5 into their Void and Quake Engines respectively, while Machine used id Tech 6 on Wolfenstein 2, Youngblood, and Cyberpilot. The only difference with id Tech 7 is that so far no 2nd/3rd party studio has used it for a game unlike previous id Tech iterations, Indiana Jones from Machine could potentially be the first and/or only 2nd/3rd party game to use id Tech 7 before id releases their first id Tech 8 game.

Quite different from Bethesda who did 3 games on Creation Engine 1.0 before upgrading to Creation Engine 2.0 for Starfield.
