My list barely changed, so I'm going to highlight some of the changes.

Horizon Forbidden West at #33

I replayed the first Horizon this year, before starting this one.

The second game has lots of pros and cons over the first game.

Healing has become a set number of items, which makes it part of your inventory and you get those benefits of being able to put extra ones in storage. Stuff like that.
I feel like the game's combat is very similar to the first one, with the caveat that combat against people is more difficult than the first. Melee combat still isn't great. The combat in general has been my issue with both of the games. It's not as rewarding as say the Souls games are. Not really fun to get thrashed around by the big robots. Not really fun to launch several arrows at regular human enemies just to take down one. The first game was a bit better in that particular regard for me.

Visually the game is insane. The first game looked good, but had issues with animation being slightly robotic. Here on the other hand, it's like they made it a top priority to make sure it looked smooth and dense everywhere. The cutscenes and dialogue are much more expressive than anything in the first game, and at times might even be giving Naughty Dog a run.

The one thing that really shines in both of these games, relative to almost anything else, is when you get immersed in discovery. I don't even know exactly what it is. But you're in a destroyed building from a thousand years ago, climbing through ruins, and it immerses in a weird way that I've never felt before.

Final Fantasy XVI at #20

Lots of awesome, lots of minorly disappointment.

When the gameplay clicks, it's great. It's a lot of fun. Not quite my favorite, but it's better than a lot of other games.

Spoiler!

Some of the story related things were disappointing.

One of the bosses was kind of getting hyped up, and it ended up not really being much of anything; compared to the huge epic fights before it.

The story sacrificed a cool grounded narrative in favor of some over the top "time to fight god" business. I think the story could have been really great without veering into that. It would have been cool if Anabella took a more prominent role in the end, as a villain. It felt like the start of the game really felt interesting in part because of her.

I didn't hate any of it. I still thought it was good, but it really made me feel like it was working towards something incredibly special and it wasn't.

Overall, there are ways it could have been better, but it was still a great experience.

God of War Ragnarok at #12

Not everyone likes the God of War (2018)/Ragnarok combat system. Personally it's my second favorite after the extended family of Souls games. Combat just feels great. I even got the platinum because I wanted to keep playing.

There's some weakness in some of the level design. There's also some crazy highs in the level design. There's a completely optional level that completely blows away every other level in the game.

I feel like it does some things better than 2018, but it's also more flawed. There are more issues with level design, story pacing, and some gameplay stuff is a little less rewarding. But overall, it's still a fantastic experience.
