Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.

8.7/10

Ratchet and clank Rift Apart is probably one of the most visually stunning games I've ever played. The entire time I was convinced I was actually playing a high budget 3d animated movie. The environments are stunning with an incredible amount of detail. The visual effects are awe inducing and also some effects can make the gameplay a bit disorienting. Playing with the Dualsense controller really elevates the experience further with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

The gameplay isn't much of a departure to other games in the series. But it has some nice additions. Like the Phantom dash which is essentially a new dodge move that is also useful for platforming sections. It's a nice addition that also allows the developers to design more aggressive enemies which makes combat more engaging.

The Rift tether is a new gadget that allows you to interact with the various Rifts you can find in each level. Some are used to pull you to a different location while others open a pocket dimension where you find armor pieces. I also really like that we can customize armor in this game instead of being stuck to one set like the previous games.

The platforming sections are great fun with the new movement options and are some of the best in the series.

But as much as I like the new additions in this game. I can't help but to feel the series formula is getting a bit stale having the same level design as Going Commando 20 years ago. Also the Story's writing feels lackluster as it doesn't do much to develop the characters or advance the main narrative that was set up in previous games. It feels like the only purpose was to introduce Rivet as a character which is fine and all but I expected more out of this game. Also what happened to the clever witty humor this series used to have?

Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing more of this franchise in the future. I hope Insomniac keeps churning out more of their original IP and doesn't devolve into just making more Marvel stuff like rumors suggest.
