We should be getting the 50m sell-through announcement from Sony any day now which will help to see how close PS5 tracking is.
When they announced 40m it was 11 days after they had passed so if they have passed 50m now we'll get it announced by the end of the year. (They announced 40m sell-through as of July 16th 2023 on July 27th 2023)
