I feel like this might be a Star Wars game, with the weapon being a lightsaber. But now... there's a lot of Star Wars games, so I'm going to have to read around and then guess at random if I'm on the right path...

That's exactly right, so very good.

I admit you'll have to know the game pretty well to get it from the hints. The first hint refers to a part in a cutscene when Kyle Katarn's asking a 'Chiss' bartender (you know, one of those blue guys with red eyes) for clues and he ignores Katarn until he slams his lightsaber hilt on the counter. The second hint refers to how after the game's intro Kyle returns to Luke's Jedi Academy to get 'his' Lightsaber, which in this game is blue, however in the first Jedi Knight, Kyle's Lightsaber, which he gets from his father is green.
