MP4 as a killer app hardware showcase for Switch 2 is the only hope Metroid ever has of breaking out of its somewhat niche status among Nintendo IPs. Much like BotW blew everyone away and broke Zelda into juggernaut territory. The difference in why BotW could be cross gen and do that is because Switch was not a big hardware jump. Switch 2 will be. An MP4 built for the Switch in 2024 or 2025 is going to entice no one outside of the core fanbase, so the franchise is just going to stay where it’s at and likely end up a situation where Nintendo abandons it again for years on end.
