This seems like a direct response to someone or a team of people exploiting the search. I doubt regular people really search that much but you could easily write a bot to basically go wild and gain huge amounts of points in a very short period of time. Interesting enough as I wrote this I did a simple check and yep, there are multiple bots that do this.
