33. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
The DS and 3DS were some of the best systems for puzzle games and this is the game that started me on that path. It begins like many mystery novels with an odd but perceptive main character visiting an isolated location: in this case a Curious Village in the middle of the countryside. The town seems normal on the surface, but further you delve the more strange and foreboding it appears with its secrets almost tangibly felt. But as you solve puzzle after puzzle you manage to reach the heart of the mystery and discover the fantastical yet satisfying reveal. Although I enjoy other games in the series, this one is still my favorite, the story is the most grounded yet still has that fantastical air, the music is the best the series has ever produced, and the puzzles of course are all delightful.
