Picking a runner up for this year is incredibly tough.

Xenoblade was my 2011 GOTY as I live in PAL territory, but considered as a 2010 game it's still hot on the heels of Galaxy 2 thanks to its inspired world, amazing soundtrack, likeable characters, and epic story.

DKCR I feel is somewhat underrated and one of my favourite 2D platformers ever thanks to its creative and dynamic level design.

Halo Reach is for me the greatest game in the series, which is saying a lot given I hold Halo 1 and 2 in very high esteem. With its elegaic campaign, top notch enemy AI and tightly refined gunplay, its a worthy swan song for the Bungie era of Halo.

Mass Effect 2, Black Ops, Goldeneye 007, and Vanquish are terrific as well. Then there's the honourable mentions like Red Steel 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, Metro 2033, Bioshock 2... do this day it remains the year where I bought more games than any other.

Ultimately, I have to go with Xenoblade, but hot damn we had it good back then.
