Which was the better game?

Super Mario Bros. 3 was released for the NES. It was notable for being extremely hyped, even having a movie released in its honor. It was the only Mario Platformer (besides Galaxy) to go full-out on Power-Ups. It had the Mushroom, Frog, Tanooki, StarMan, Flower, and of corse the Raccoon. It also had very diversified worlds and bosses.

Super Mario World was released for the SNES and was the first Mario game to have secret levels. It had the Secret Levels, the Star Levels, and those levels with the slang like Groovy and Mondo. It also introduces the lovable dinosaur, Yoshi! You could also find many, many other secrets within the game. It too had diverse worlds and bosses.

IMO, I think Super Mario World is better. It did what SMB3 did and even more.

SMB3 had also had a Hammer Bros. suit, and it had Kuribo's shoe, which was the coolest powerup of any Mario game ever.  And the tower in Sky World was one of the coolest levels in any Mario game.  And it had airships.  And multiplayer mini-games to fight over cards.  And mushroom houses and card games.  And it had more items than any other Mario game (hammers, music boxes, P-Wings, warp whistles, and the regular powerups.)  And you can kill the sun.  And it had the most original worlds like Giant Land and Pipe Land.  And it introduced flight.

What SMW really brought to the table was Yoshi, switch palaces, and the ability to save your game and come back later so people would actually finish it.  And it took out the multiplayer mini-games and the items and the airships and some other features.

In conclusion, 3 was the revolution.  I read a review somewhere that said when SMB3 came out, it was just the jazz of platforming, and Miyamoto was soloing through the entire level design, or something to that effect.  You had bricks with goombas hidden inside jumping at you and crazy tricks and traps and secrets everywhere.  World took the PERFECT foundation of SMB3 and just cranked it up to 11.

The jump from SMB1 and 2 to 3 was about a million percent.  The jump from 3 to World was just another 20%, but in a few ways it was a tiny step backwards.

That said, I still can't pick a favorite.

And please, for everybody discussing SMW, can you at least use the correct names of the Star Road and Special World!  If it's your favorite Mario game, you should at least know the name of the most badass world in the game.

(Protip: if you get to the Special Zone, and stay on the level select screen for a good couple minutes, the music goes into a fat remix of the oldschool SMB theme.)
