PS5 Sells Over 1.6M, NS Tops 130M Lifetime - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for September 2023
The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,644,955 units sold for September 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 43.87 million units lifetime worldwide.
The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 996,622 units to bring its lifetime sales to 130.42 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 671,715 units to bring their lifetime sales to 23.90 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 21,420 units to bring its lifetime sales to 117.13 million units.
PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 190,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 60,000 units. PS4 sold 1,454,905 units for the month of September 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 731,697 units.
PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 422,133 (34.5%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 21,583 units (-3.1%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 428,164 units (-30.1%). The PlayStation 4 is up 7,778 units (57.0%) year-over-year.
Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up by nearly 250,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 241,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are up by over 52,000 units. It should be noted there are five weeks in September, while there were four in August.
2023 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 12.86 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 10.03 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 4.20 million units.

Europe Hardware Estimates for September 2023

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 633,693 units sold for September 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 13.80 million units lifetime in Europe.
The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 224,263 units to bring its lifetime sales to 33.33 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 193,914 units to bring their lifetime sales to 6.63 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 6,505 units to bring its lifetime sales to 45.87 million units.
PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 56,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by nearly 10,000 units. PS4 sold 577,372 units for the month of September 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 184,215 units.
PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 303,993 (92.2%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 34,875 units (-15.2%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 80,284 units (-26.4). The PlayStation 4 is up by 5,200 units (398.5%) year-over-year.
Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up over 36,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 69,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by over 15,000 units. It should be noted there are five weeks in September, while there were four in August.
2023 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 4.33 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 2.53 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.21 million units.

PS5 Best-Seller, Starfield Boosts XS - Americas Hardware Estimates for September 2023
The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 559,658 units sold for September 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 18.53 million units lifetime in the Americas.
The Xbox Series X|S sold an estimated 366,131 units to bring its lifetime sales to 13.93 million units. The Nintendo Switch sold 261,118 units to bring their lifetime sales to 49.84 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 8,882 units to bring its lifetime sales to 41.51 million units.
PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 221,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 70,000 units. PS4 sold 338,621 units for the month of September 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 436,109 units.
PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 30,178 (-5.1%). Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 24,165 units (7.1%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 161,935 units (-8.3%). The PlayStation 4 is up by 3,611 units (68.5%) year-over-year.
Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 139,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 118,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are up by nearly 26,000 units. It should be noted there are five weeks in September, while there were four in August.
2023 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 4.41 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 3.31 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 2.38 million units.

Switch Best-Seller, PS5 Sales Up 178% - Japan Hardware Estimates for September 2023
The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in Japan with 364,038 units sold for September 2023, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch has now sold an estimated 30.82 million units lifetime in Japan.
The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 227,048 units to bring its lifetime sales to 4.46 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 26,360 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.52 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 3,325 units to bring its lifetime sales to 9.65 million units.
PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 6,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by nearly 26,000 units. PS4 sold 220,798 units for the month of September 2016 and Xbox One sales were at 785 units.
Nintendo Switch sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 201,587 units (-35.6%). PlayStation 5 sales are up by 145,258 (177.6%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 19,007 units (-41.9%). The PlayStation 4 is up 3,262 units (5,177.8%) year-over-year.
Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch sales are up by nearly 30,000 units, the PlayStation 5 sales are up by nearly 46,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 16,000 units. It should be noted there are five weeks in September, while there were four in August.
2023 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch has sold an estimated 2.93 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 2.03 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.11 million units.
