Idk, the cost for LCD displays at 7-8" are probably so negligable between different resolutions its probably worth them going for a 1080P for internal display just for the extra clarity. And we've been seeing constant rumors of having DLSS implemented so it wouldn't be so much a burden on the system either.

For native res it probably makes more sense but idk 720P screen in 2024 and way beyond doesn't sound very exciting, imo ofc. Docked 720P > 4K DLSS would be like going for ultra performance and that would like fine. Or 900P. Indefinately better than what solutions the NS has now at 1080P max output.

Well, the Steam Deck also has a 7" screen with a 800p resolution and few people complained about it, so I'd say that there's still a market for this size and resolution.

Besides, we're talking about Nintendo. They don't make a lot of money from their hardware, most of it comes from their software, and if they can save a few pennies here and there, you can bet that they'll do it.

Plus, on such a small screen, the visual difference between 720p and 1080p is pretty small. 900 by 1600 would also be a good intermediate resolution for those who feel 720p would be too small without taxing the hardware too much.
