Saw that on Twitter and couldn't help but lol. Skyrim is at 60m+ sales lifetime and had hit 30m sales as of 2016 just from the original 3 platforms (PC, 360, PS3). Fallout 4 meanwhile we haven't had a sales update on it in quite awhile, but about 15 months after it released Pete Hines said it's sales were tracking ahead of Skyrim at 15 months, which would likely indicate sales of at least 18m for Fallout 4 after 15 months (because we know that Skyrim sold 20m copies at 19 months). I would imagine Fallout 4 has sold at least 30m lifetime by now, considering it's late life legs should be fairly strong. If it's not at 30m sales already, the upcoming PS5/XS update surely will push it over 30m lifetime.

And those are just sales, if you looked at player counts for Skyrim and Fallout 4, which would have both been boosted by Skyrim and Fallout 4 being on Gamepass for 3 years now, and them being on PS Plus mid tier and PS Plus Collection respectively for awhile as well, you're probably looking at something like 70m+ players for Skyrim and 40m+ players for Fallout 4. Certainly not niche.

If they're niche then almost everything aside from GTA, Minecraft, COD and a few other franchises are niche

Sounds like some clickbait article if you ask me.  Either that or we just have some very random person doing an article who has no clue about the subject matter.  Either situation is bad.
