Well to a degree sure. They wouldn't own Pokemon entirely though.

But I think my point still stands. GameFreak isn't going anywhere, so there's no need for Nintendo to go about acquiring them. i also don't think Nintendo is interested in going for full 100% ownership, that means everything about the production distribution and localisation of everything pokemon related goes through them. It's a lot of added work for them to control and oversee.
