Not surprised at all that Square's initial PR statement about FF16 being a success was mostly baloney, glad the shareholders called them out on that. Square has been floundering for awhile now and FF16 being a middling success at best is not enough to make up for their numerous other recent flops. Pretty obvious why the previous President was asked to step down now, and why one of the new President's first acts was to announce that Square games would be multiplat as often as possible (minus timed deals that had already been made under the old leadership but haven't been announced yet).

Hopefully they refocus back on what Final Fantasy fans want, instead of giving us Final Fantasy-DMC hybrid nonsense with western style writing and art design and heavily action combat. Imo they need to go with full playable parties, an action-timed hybrid system like FF7R uses, and stick with Japanese style writing and artwork. They've tried twice now this year to hybridize Japanese and western game design, with both FF16 and Forspoken, one was an unmitigated disaster, while the other shipped about 1.2m less copies in the first week than FF15 sold on PS4 alone in 1 day even though PS5's install base was only a few million lower than PS4's was when FF15 released.
