XV can be finished in less than 30 hours even with the open world, XVI too. VII to XIII were bigger (story).

What XV and XVI have is a lot of optional quests, which I agree can bring a lot of padding, but it can't be helped, most people buying just a handful games a year and want to spent a hundred of hours of them, that's why there are so many boring and useless quests. If they are indeed optional they don't bother me much.

Most of it is my own fault, I tend to be a completion type and the boring optional stuff annoys bit I'm struggle not doing it.  

I thought 7 Remake was amazing and a good example of focus.  The side quests were largely short and sweet.
