Square has always wanted to make Final Fantasy games where it can show off the most graphically. If they weren't so fixated on the capacity of cd's to produce fmv, they might have stuck around on the N64. I don't think Nintendo will ever see a brand new mainline Final Fantasy unless the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful that expected.
