Only way keeping on the market for so long would make sense was if they were preparing for big HW and SW price cuts and obviously more rounds of AAA games to keep the software coming.

They could go for the "still haven't bought Switch yet? well now you can pick up a ton on the cheap!" idea/audience. Imagine most AAA first party games at $30 and Switch at $140/$220/$270. With those prices, as long as they keep the new software coming, it could keep selling. And you'd probably get a bunch of people upgrading to the OLED if the gen was gonna continue a couple extra years and the prices dropped.

But, of course, none of that is actually going to happen because one thing we know about Nintendo is that they don't actually TRY to sell things. They just put things out and that's it. No aggressive business plans from them.
