I have pretty high standards for a 10, I've never given a 10 to any gaming showcase. For me a 10 this year for Xbox would require most of the following:
-Gameplay for most of the games shown, especially Fable and Avowed, not just in-engine for them
-High end AAA graphics on most of the 1st/2nd party games, I want to be impressed by graphics like I am with many of Sony's games, I certainly don't want another Redfall situation which had poor graphics right from the first gameplay trailer
-An extremely impressive Starfield showing, we're talking a nice graphics improvement over last year on a quality mode on Series X, with an optional 60 fps performance mode on Series X as well. We're talking some very nice gameplay including a substantial improvement in shooting mechanics compared to Fallout 4/76, nice space combat and ship customization shown, good storytelling on display, etc.
-Several 2nd party exclusive surprises, things that Jez and Grubb and other insiders haven't already leaked like they did with Project Belfry and Project Shaolin and such. In particular I really need to see at least one JP 2nd party exclusive that isn't the Kojima cloud game in order to give this show a 10.
-Strong 3rd party western showcase including some AAA reveals and day one gamepass on at least one of the AAA western 3rd party reveals. I also want to see Baldur's Gate 3 confirmed for Xbox release at launch, after their earlier statement that they were having development difficulties on Xbox Series earlier this year that might delay the game on Xbox.
-Strong JP 3rd party showcase, including brand new game reveals from some of the big JP publishers, some late ports of older games (such as FF7R, Trials of Mana Remake, or Sakura Wars) or newer games in series that have been skipping Xbox in the past (such as Atelier, Ys, Legend of Heroes, Senran Kagura, etc.), plus I want to see day one gamepass on alot of the above, especially on anything that is a late port to Xbox
-Good pacing, that means very little pointless executive talking (any executive talking should be for a good reason, such as announcing that production numbers will be way up soon or announcing a price cut for Xbox Series S), not spending several minutes showing us car porn of actual cars on stage for Forza, no more than maybe 4 minutes spent on any single game (except for Starfield), no long boring indie sections that kill the pacing, etc.
-Series S price cut announced (it's sales have slowed far too much for them to keep it at $300)
-Limited edition consoles on display, Xbox really needs to step it up in this area, I want to see a Limited edition S and X for Starfield (as well as cheaper standard starfield bundles announced for them)
-A strong showing of UI/UE changes. I want to see a revamped Xbox UI with smaller icons and an off-centered UI bar so less of the background is blocked, I want to see that audio backgrounds are coming, I want to hear about a much needed achievements system revamp, I want to hear that that Game DVR will receive big improvements.
-I want at least one reveal that could be described as a Megaton, we're talking about something like a major JP exclusive (something like Lost Odyssey 2 or Scalebound being revived by Platinum), a major new studio acquisition announced, a major new publisher partnership that will bring all of the publisher's games to Gamepass (like EA), a big exclusive IP of Xbox's past returning (like Jade Empire).
My high requirements for a 10 showcase are why I said I am at hype tier 8, I just don't think a 10 has a realistic chance of happening.
