It’s kind of their thing. Anyhow, because of time constraints I’ve only had time to lay for a really short while (finished the first shrine) I like it so far. Visually it is, just as BotW, gorgeous. And while the intro is kind of slow it sets a mood. And @SvennoJ if you felt that that part is washed out and grey I would recommend you to take a look at your TVs picture settings (one thing is to set both the console and TV to RGB high). For me it looked really nice and also when I exited the cave for the first time out into the morning light I had to remind myslef that the console actually isn’t HDR capable but it just so looked damn good with a feeling of a really high dynamic range. |
It got really bright alright when exiting the cave for the first time. But that's not HDR, it's just bright SDR, still a very limited contrast range giving that washed out look, just now at the high end of the spectrum. The picture settings are fine, it's the same input I use the Series X on and Sea of Thieves looks absolutely stunning. But I'll check if it has RGB range options, as well as on the Switch. But it looks like they match, it's just the game is in SDR trying to do both dark and bright environments within a limited range.
Anyway, I've also had very little time so far to try the game. At least the cave sections were clearly visible at night (although grey ish), not drowned out by high ambient clear sky daytime lighting. I haven't even gotten to the first shrine yet or anywhere really. It doesn't have that instant appeal effect BotW had so I preferred catching up on sleep over digging in :)
