Hot damn, my Fiber ISP just doubled the speed of their basic tier from 300 mit/s to 600 mbit/s with no price increase. The new 2.8 GB Hogwarts Legacy patch downloaded in less than a minute. Crazy how much better this ISP is than Comcast, Comcast had a stranglehold on my area until this new ISP appeared 2 years ago. I'm paying less money for 600 mbit/s now than I was paying for 80 mbit/s 2 years ago with Comcast.

Sounds like a case for the FTC. Clearly the new ISP harmed competition in your area by disrupting Comcast's monopoly.

xD

The coolest part is that actually having competition has made Comcast better in my area. The 80 mbit/s plan from 2 years ago is now 200 mbit/s for $10 less per month than it used to be, and they dropped their 1TB a month data cap and have unlimited data now. With this new competitor upping the ante once again by doubling speed at the same price point on their cheapest tier (modest speed improvements at the same price on mid and high tier as well), I'm sure that Comcast will soon make further improvements to better compete. This is the way that competition is supposed to work, if any one company becomes too powerful, a competitor appears and undercuts them on price or outperforms them on features and forces the company that had the monopoly before to become less complacent and more consumer friendly.

We had that in the gaming industry in gen 7, 360 and PS3 were virtually neck and neck with both sides working hard to compete, frequent price cuts and strong bundles, lots of 3rd marketing deals and exclusivity deals from both, it was just an all-around good gen for everyone because of the competition.

However, after Xbox One faceplanted Sony has been able to play it safe ever since, they are the Comcast of gaming once again, underhanded, complacent, able to get away with whatever they want. It annoys the shit out of me that the CMA and the FTC are going to bat to protect Sony's gaming monopoly and prevent Xbox from becoming a proper challenger to Sony again like they were in gen 7.
