Yeah, that game is definitely not as far along as some people thought it was. I remember seeing people speculating that it would be a 2023 or early 2024 release, and I kept telling them that they didn't even start hiring for the project until January 2020, after the final We Happy Few update dropped in November 2019. Alot of people seemed to be under the assumption that full development on their next game began in 2018 after We Happy Few released, but pretty much the whole team was either doing DLC or bug fixes/QoL fixes for it until after that last DLC shipped in November 2019.
We Happy Few itself took nearly 5 years to develop, November 2013 to August 2018, and this next game, Project Midnight, seems more ambitious than We Happy Few. Plus they were dealing with Covid slowdown during the first couple of years of it's development, and they spent the first few years staffing up from 40 devs to 80+ devs so they weren't at full team early on. Best case scenario is a 2025 release I'm guessing, hopefully first half 2025.
